The easiest way to decide the right extracurricular activities.

Use this one hack to answer the question: "What should I do?"

“I’m interested in [SUBJECT] & want to create a project - but I have no idea where to start.”

A great first step is listing all your current commitments and circling the ones you enjoy the most.

However, one of the best strategies for inspiration is to look at accomplished students from your dream schools & institutions. How do you find out what people are doing?

Use Linked-In.

While LinkedIn is often seen as a networking tool, it’s also great for browsing people’s experiences to get ideas.

Start by asking yourself, "Who do I want to be?"

Example: "I want to be a Business student at UC Berkeley."

Next, search for current students on LinkedIn (e.g., “UC Berkeley Business Student”) and review their profiles. Scroll to their earliest initiatives and take notes.

Make a list of initiatives that stand out, and highlight the ones that resonate with you.

But remember, never start something just because others are doing it. Everything you do needs to be rooted in your genuine interests.

Your last step is to reflect on the memorable experiences you’ve had & see if you can connect them to your list of initiatives.

It could look like filling out a table like this:

Researched Initiative

Memorable Experience

New Idea

Megamind Learning - non-profit tutoring program with the goal to bridge education gaps for elementary students post-COVID

- My little sister coming up to me, asking me to help with her math homework, & me feeling hurt when I realized that she didn’t know basic multiplication.

- Focusing specifically on a mathematic based program to help elementary students recover/get ahead

We’ve shared a step-by-step framework on how to make sure your commitments are purposeful: you can read the previous article here.

Use our Linked-In tip as a good starting point.
