Project 1: Fighting Menstruation-Related Absenteeism – Project Pragati

How It Started
After witnessing a young girl drop out of high school due to a lack of period products, the founder researched local rates of absenteeism and dropout among adolescent girls. They founded “Project Pragati” to address the issue.

Project 2: Expanding Refugee Education in Greece– “Ray of Hope”

The “Ray of Hope Traveling Book Club” consisted of mobile libraries traveling across schools in northern Greece to be used by students. Pictured above is a mobile library featured on their site.

How it started
The founder, from Athens, had a love for literature. She had been recognized nationally for her writing at the age of 8 and shortlisted for “the Author of Tomorrow” award. At the time, she heard about the 1.2 million refugees arriving in Greece due to ongoing conflicts from 2015-2021. She used her expertise to launch “Ray of Hope.”

Mission

Ray of Hope helps refugees expand their education pursuits to become active citizens and gain the self-confidence to pursue their personal & professional goals.

Pillars

1) Establish libraries to promote access and learning for refugees

2) Create computer rooms in refugee camps to teach refugees digital skills

3) Travelling book club: bring educational resources to schools and refugee camps to help them pursue their personal & professional goals

Impact:

  • Worked with over 2000 refugees & 18 refugee camps/structures

How it started

Passionate about sustainability, the founder discovered that hotels discard linens with minor stains. Wanting to find a more sustainable solution, she tried to discover a way to repurpose the linens in a purposeful way.

Mission

“Linens N Love” revolutionizes hotel practices to create a culture of care for our community. They accomplish this by repurposing discarded linens to shelters & communities in need.

1) Sustainability & environmental practice education for youth volunteers

2) Donate linens to homeless families, low-income households, animal shelters, and other charities

3) Activate youth to coordinate linen deliveries and engage in service-based learning to foster a culture of care
